When the concept of sociology is brought into your life, your brain adds in a whole new dimension of thinking. You must be able to recognize the difference between issues that hurt the entire society and personal issues that only effect a certain person. With all that being said, that is why this is not just an easy topic to pick up. There is a lot of understanding and specifics that need to be found. After Mills was able to explain to me the concept of sociology, I continued reading into what the sociological perspective encompasses. This different perspective lets you step into someone elseââ¬â¢s shoes and see what is happening and why it is happening. An example of this can be pulled from a passage called Teenage Wasteland by Donna Gaines. Gaines notes ââ¬Å"But I was really pissed off at what I kept reading. How people in Bergenfield openly referred to the four kids as ââ¬Ëtroubled loser.ââ¬â¢ Even after they were dead, nobody cut them any slack. ââ¬ËBurnouts,ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëdruggies,ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëdropouts.ââ¬â¢ Something was wrong. Formation of Public Policy Final Paper - 605 Words
The government is in charge of operating the most diverse nation in the world while trying to take the best interests of as many people as possible. Controversy is unavoidable in a country with diversity among races, ethnicities, and political feelings. Public policy is not exempt from controversial legislation. Chapters 10 and 13 thoroughly discuss the issues of legal and social equality as well as policy relating to private morality. The formation of public policy relating to private morality and social equality is highly controversial because there are targeted groups that will benefit and non targeted groups that will be ignored by the policy; however a policy like affirmative action affects both targeted and non-targeted groups.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Political parties are largely aligned with the two sides with liberals siding with the targeted group and conservatives siding with the non targeted faction. Other agents in policy regarding affirmative action are civil rights organizations and labor unions. Impact evaluation from the targeted group would say that affirmative action is bringing social equality to their specific groups; whereas the non targeted groupââ¬â¢s impact and cost-benefit evaluations would deem this policy ineffective and counterproductive towards true social equality. The American people have a basic right to freedom as implied in the Bill of Rights; however public policy regarding private morality is still deemed necessary for and by the public and its government. Chapter 13 addresses policy relating to morality and how that policy is created as well as carried out. The agents and actors for morality policy are largely the same as social equality. There is going to be a targeted group and a non-targeted group; however the policy is still going to affect everyone. One of the topics addressed in this chapter is the first amendment with regards to free speech and at what point has free speech crossed a moral line. T he Constitution gives American people the right to free speech, but there are instances where the Supreme Court has said that not all speech is free speech.Show MoreRelatedCaleb Roberts . Pols 602. Measuring Performance and Management Control Systems
Question: Discuss about the Measuring Performance and Management Control Systems. Answer: Introduction Management control system refers to the process to gather and use the necessary information about an organization in order to measure the performance of that particular organization (Grabner and Moers, 2013). The report is to evaluate the effects of management control on the performance of the organizations. The main purpose of the report is to measure and compare the performance of four Australian companies with the help of management control. The four companies are Insurance Australia Group limited, Medibank Private Limited, Suncorp Group Limited and QBE Insurance Group. All the companies are operating in the insurance sector of Australia. Among these four insurance companies, Medibank Private Limited is specialized in providing health insurance. Apart from Medibank Private limited, all three insurance companies provide general as well as life insurance to their customers. For the purpose of this study, the remuneration report of the directors along with the report of the directors are taken into consideration and analyzed. After that, all the important information and facts are summarized and then compared among each other so that the best-performed organization can be found (Melnyk et al., 2014). Background Material Insurance Australia Group Limited Insurance Australia Group Limited is one of those companies that provider remuneration of the senior managers based on the performance of them (Klettner, Clarke and Boersma, 2014). QBE Insurance Group QBE Insurance Group has a different kind of remuneration plan for their senior managers. These two companies are Insurance Australia Group Limited and Suncorp Group Limited. Both the companies have adopted the balance scorecard methods by which the performance of their senior managers measured. On the other hand, both these companies have set some particular means or standards that have assisted them to measure the performance of the organization. It has been seen that the adopted performance measurement approach of these two companies is immensely effective for them as the companies are performing well under this approach. On the contrary, the performance measurement approach of QBE Insurance Group has been considered as non-effective as the company has failed to register satisfactory results. Mediba nk Private Limited is another company that has adopted the almost same approach like Insurance Australia Group Limited and Suncorp Group Limited. Thus, from the above discussion, it can be concluded that the performance measurement approach of Insurance Australia Group Limited and Suncorp Group Limited is the most effective approach.
